PUERTO RICO is a territory of the USA located in the Caribbean and it has two main political parties, the New Progressive Party, and the Popular Party. Every 4 years one governor is elected, switching parties but following the same policies as the government that was before, and keeping an endless BUREAUCRACY in all agencies without any exceptions.

Permits to establish any kind of business in Puerto Rico could take on many occasions up to 2 years to be approved. The renewal of those permits is another struggle for Puerto Ricans because it is like doing the initial application. In comparison, the approval of permits in the majority of the states could take from a few minutes to hours or a few days.

Another situation Puerto Rico is experiencing is criminality and unsolved cases of homicide. In the last 25 years, Puerto Rico, which is a small island of 35 X 100 miles and has about 3 million residents, has been affected by more than 20,000 homicides, most of them related to drugs and narcotics struggles, and the majority of these homicides haven’t been solved by the Police Department.

WHAT IS THE MAIN PROBLEM AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX IT?

The main problem of Puerto Rico’s government is the IMPROVISATION, and too many norms, policies, laws, and requirements, without the consideration and necessity of the people to work and raise their families without so many obstacles. Also, the government of Puerto Rico has thousands of employees doing the same things over and over in their agencies, making the bureaucracy even worse for the residents that need the services.

TO SOLVE the main problems that the people of Puerto Rico are having, they will need to ACCELERATE THE PROCESS of getting business permits by taking out the at least 45% of all the requirements of those permits. To change the legislative branch that has too many people “working” thereby, lowering it to at least 35%, and to start using the federal help that Puerto Rico is receiving.

Concerning criminality and unsolved homicides, it is imperative to recruit at least 500 new homicide professional investigators with all the equipment to start working on those cold cases that have decades waiting to be solved, because the government doesn’t care.

For the prevention of crime, the Police need to have better equipment for communication, computers, undercover agents, GPS, tracking systems, and Police Inspectors doing evaluations of the Police force and reporting the findings directly to the Chief of Police.

Puerto Rico is a BEAUTIFUL ISLAND THAT DESERVES MORE from its government. The people are wonderful as well as their beaches, food, and scenery. Puerto Rico is a territory of the USA and ALL its people are US citizens. It has more than 275,000 US Army VETERANS from all wars and conflicts. Puerto Rico needs to do some big changes not only in permits to establish new businesses but to change how the government is working, and that has to be done IMMEDIATELY…
